Los Feliz Votes
David Hunter

Hello, Los Feliz! I'm a recent transplant from Echo Park. I've been visiting Los Feliz, and volunteering here, for many years, before I chose to move here.
In Echo Park I served on the neighborhood council for the most recent term. For those four years I was treasurer, as well as the chair of the Housing and Homelessness Committee. (We co-platformed a tenants rights workshop with the Los Feliz Neighborhood Council as the eviction moratoriums were about to expire.)
Over my first term, I learned that the most valuable function of our council system is that it provides a platform for community members to channel and nourish their own community interests. The moments when we feel inspired to take an interest in our own neighborhood can be rare, and fleeting. Without a venue to express that interest, we may get distracted by life's demands before it can take root and flourish. The council system can be that venue, especially if it provides reliable, accessible, and welcoming meetings.
I ran for my first term as a member of a progressive slate of candidates, and was proud to uphold those values as a councilmember (in particular, as the author of the council's response to the "Echo Park Rehabilitation After Action Report." However, I suspect that my most valuable contribution may have been my perfect attendance record.
