Los Feliz Votes
Charlene Gawa

We are living in turbulent, chaotic times worldwide. Systems are falling apart. An
individual can feel quite powerless. But we are individuals within a community.
Something, I feel we have forgotten. This is the moment to come back to our
community, to our neighbors and neighborhoods, our local merchants and our local
service centers. The Neighborhood Councils have tremendous grassroots power that
often goes unnoticed and unused. You and I have the power to initiate great change
one issue, one vote at a time. I want to change the perception of powerlessness. As
the paid Secretary for the Wilshire Center Koreatown Neighborhood Council, I
realized how much one voice one vote can change and enhance the quality of life for
the community. Los Feliz is such a creative community. Why not let the poet, the
writer, the painter shine bring their work to the community. Why can’t Los Feliz be
the template for positive change at the grassroots level.
