Los Feliz Votes
Aida Ashouri

As your representative, I worked to ensure that Los Feliz is a place welcoming to all. I advised LADOT to expand its slow streets program in Los Feliz, resulting in the roundabouts and widened curbs to help slow down traffic. I created the Diversity and Inclusion Ad Hoc that created community agreements to help encourage more respectful and empathetic conversations during our meetings. I also authored many community impact statements and resolutions that advocated for solutions to combat climate change such as wildlife conservation, enforcing the 20-year gas leafblower ban, protected bike lanes, and preserving the land inside Griffith Park in the face of the LA Zoo expansion. I also worked on first of its kind legislation to provide small business protections such as limiting CAAM fees. I also stood for human rights by drafting resolutions to denounce the racism of our former city councilmembers and advocated for a ceasefire in Palestine and respect for international human rights frameworks that maintain our fragile rule of law. As a housing rights attorney, I understand that Los Feliz faces high rents and housing scarcity, and renters need protections from out of control rent increases. I have also worked extensively in LA to help make this a better city. At the LA City Attorney’s Office, I advised the City Council on a legal assistance program for immigrants, drafted an ordinance banning religious registries, and worked to protect domestic violence victims. I enjoy public service and volunteer in the community with the Food Bank, Reading to Kids, and Schools on Wheels. I am currently the co-chair of the Environmental Affairs Committee and a member on a number of other ones, and have worked to organize clean ups, propose sidewalk gardens, and provide input on environmental reviews of city developments. As a first-generation immigrant, raised by a single parent, I know how to make a difference in spite of hardship. More than ever, we need leadership that advocates for vulnerable people in the face of growing fascism while our rights are under attack. In my next term I seek to continue to be a voice for our most vulnerable community residents.
